Learning Theory
Our interactive learning resource is an outstanding example and application of cognitivism. Through the process of learning-by-doing, these students would invoke a wide range of mental processes, such as recalling prior knowledge, reorganizing knowledge, extracting knowledge, thinking, and more importantly, problem solving. If some students whose existing knowledge is not sufficient to correctly answer these practices may still have chances to modify and add their existing knowledge by re-watching the tutorial videos and asking on-chat tutors for helps. The latter option similarly involves the cognitivism, because the ability to process and express language is highly demonstrated.
Learning Design
Our interactive learning resource exhibits mainly the learning design of direct instruction. In particular, the assessment in our interactive resource serves as a main application that transmits directly the knowledge to these students, and more importantly, diagnoses students’ misunderstanding for the existing knowledge. Through this assessment, both teacher side and student side realize what students already know and what students do no know yet, thereby improving teaching efficiency and saving time.
Learning Context
Our interactive learning resource caters the needs for students who are studying in senior high school and those who are first-year college students. The materials covered in the assessment are the common contents in first-year introductory microeconomics course, which is usually listed as one of the required courses for business students. In addition, some senior high schools offer SAT and AP courses in which some talented students may study in order to fulfill college credits. Through the series of the assessments that we design, both groups of students are entitled to diagnose their understanding for inflation.
